Choose the wireless method that fits
Option 1: Use a local-network transfer app
Some apps send files directly between devices on the same Wi-Fi or local network. This is useful when you want to move selected photos without first uploading them to a cloud account. Check that your iPhone and PC can communicate on the network; guest Wi-Fi or device isolation can block local discovery.
Option 2: Use cloud photo syncing
Cloud services can sync photos from your iPhone and make them available on Windows. This can be convenient across locations, but the initial upload may take time and the available cloud storage may limit how much you can sync.
Option 3: Use a dedicated wireless iPhone-to-Windows app
A dedicated app can provide a more focused workflow for selecting photos and videos and sending them to a PC. Check whether it supports local-network transfers, cross-network transfers, automatic backup, and resuming interrupted transfers.
DropToPC is one option for wireless iPhone-to-Windows photo and video transfer. Its local-network transfer is available free; cross-network transfer is also available, with higher-speed cross-network features and automatic backup capabilities offered through Pro. DropToPC is operated by the owner of this website; see the ownership disclosure.
General steps for a wireless transfer
- Install the transfer app on the iPhone and Windows PC if the workflow requires both.
- Check that the devices are connected and visible to one another, or follow the app's cross-network connection instructions.
- Select a small group of photos first and send them to a folder on the PC.
- Open several transferred files to confirm they are complete and readable.
- Only then transfer the rest of the library. Keep the originals on the iPhone until you have a verified backup.
What about thousands of photos?
For a large library, choose a method that can handle long transfers and clearly explains what happens if the connection is interrupted. Check free disk space on the PC, keep the devices powered, and verify the copied files before deleting anything from the phone. See our large photo library guide.
