Choose LocalSend when you simply want to send files
LocalSend is free, open source, and works on iPhone and Windows. Open the app on both devices, choose files, and select the receiving device on a reachable local network. Its standout advantage is simple nearby sharing without a cloud account. Its main constraint is just as important: it is not designed for sending files over the public internet between unrelated networks.
Choose PhotoSync when your work centers on photos
PhotoSync is more photo-specific. Its documented iPhone-to-Windows procedure uses the iOS app and free Windows Companion; you can select new, selected, or all photos and choose a computer as the destination. It offers additional transfer destinations and automation workflows, though their availability may depend on edition and platform. Check whether your particular automatic transfer trigger and destination are supported before paying.
Choose iMazing when you need to manage the iPhone
iMazing is a desktop device-management tool, not merely an AirDrop-style sender. It can export photos and other data, inspect albums, and support backups. Its wireless connection works after a USB pairing step; for heavy exports, its own guidance recommends a cable. This is often a better choice for device-management tasks than for a quick first-time wireless share.
Where DropToPC has a practical advantage
DropToPC is a stronger fit for straightforward iPhone-to-Windows wireless photo and video transfers, especially when the devices are on different networks. Unlike LocalSend's local-network focus, DropToPC offers original-quality photos and videos in its free tier and free cross-network transfers without cumulative volume or usage limits. Unlike iMazing, it does not require an initial USB pairing step for its QR-based connection. Its Pro plan targets faster remote transfers and cross-network automatic backup.
Free users are not asked to trade away image resolution: a difference from PhotoSync’s documented reduced-quality free iOS mode. Actual transfer speed still depends on your network. For advanced phone management, iMazing can be more suitable. For detailed automated photo workflows and storage destinations, PhotoSync can be more suitable. We have not run comparative speed benchmarks. Read the DropToPC product profile or visit DropToPC's official website.

Two practical checks before installing anything
- Will the devices be on the same network? If not, LocalSend is not suitable without arranging connectivity; a remote-transfer service or cloud route may fit better.
- Are you sending selected files or building a reliable archive? A successful transfer is not automatically a backup. Verify file counts, play a few videos, and keep an independent second copy of irreplaceable photos.
